After working with the HR Department (thank you Lynne!), we’ve developed a new Substitute list. No more having the secretary print out a report that becomes out-dated as soon as you pull it off the printer. The site is available to all employees and can be accessed via:
https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/departments/information_services/sublist/sublist.php
New Sublist website now online!
Google Apps Shortcuts
Upon each computer’s next restart, shortcuts for the Google Docs Applications as well as Google Mail will appear in the start menu for all KPBSD computers. These shortcuts will be available for Staff and Students.
We’ve been receiving great feedback from Teachers on new and exciting ways to use this collaborative technology with their students (Google Apps, Blogs etc.). I will be posting highlights on the District Website so that our community can see the technology in action. If you have an exciting educational project using technology in a new or interesting way, please let us know! Email me (david@kpbsd.k12.ak.us) with details.
Spotlight: Google Sites
In this spotlight, I’m going to show a nice video that gives a brief overview of some of the things you can use Google Sites for.
To get started, simply login to http://sites.g.kpbsd.org with your KPBSD windows account.
Google Apps… LIVE!
For more information, check out: http://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/departments.aspx?id=12092
For those that just want a quick 10,000 ft overview here are the highlights:
- 4-12 grade students now have email (first.last@g.kpbsd.org).
- Staff Outlook has the student email addresses in the address book.
- Courses are email able (example: course 12mm430_1). The teacher and each enrolled student will receive an email if the course emailed.
- Google apps are included. i.e. online word processing, spreadsheet, calendars, presentations etc.
- Video sharing is enabled for District accounts only (only viewable by staff/students). Video classes now have a medium for sharing their work.
- Staff and Students login with their KPBSD windows account
- Students have a ‘Gmail Notifier’ next to the clock when they login to district computers that lets them know when they have email waiting.
- Staff Google Email accounts auto-forward to their district Outlook account. No need to check two accounts.
- Google Accounts are accessible from home giving students the ability to work seamlessly even if they don’t have Microsoft Office.
How to login:

Google Docs adds Thumbnail view.
Thanks Google!
They’ve decided to add a new thumbnail view to the Google Docs Home page. This view makes it very quick and easy to find the documents that you are looking for… I love it.
